Participants in this workshop will be subjected to “aggressive” interviewing by “reporters” based on various crisis situations as part of their role-play to enhance their media-handling skills.

Apart from exposing participants to handling press interviews, the entire seminar-cum-workshop programme aims to guide you on how to prevent and manage product or corporate crises in the context of media handling.

Day 1

MODULE 1
Preventing The Outbreak Of A Product Or Corporate Crisis

Mismanaging an issue and saying the wrong things to the press can turn the issue into a controversy, which in turn may plunge into a crisis.

So, what should you or should you not say to the media in order to nip the issue in the bud before it gets out of hand? And when should you speak up and when should you keep your silence? These are some of the important questions we will be dealing with.

One of the case studies here shows how a company’s response to a press complaint prevented a slip-up from turning into a corporate crisis.

MODULE 2
Managing The Press In A Crisis  Or  Controversy

Now you are in a crisis and in a fix. “It” happened all of a sudden and you are bombarded with questions calling for immediate answers from the media. Do not worry, there is an effective way to deal with the inquisitive press and keep them at bay.

Among the many other things we will be discussing in this module is why  “No Comment” can be a disastrous comment. Keeping quiet or avoiding the press may also be fatal to corporate image. The solutions will be  looked at.

Another interesting observation you will make here is the behavioural pattern of the press in covering a crisis or controversy. Being aware of this pattern can help to prevent your company from being dragged into a crisis inadvertently by the media.

MODULE 3
Handling Press Interviews (Newspaper, Radio & TV)

Sometimes, somewhere, somehow – whether you like it or not – you may have to face the press if you are in communications, a VIP, a public figure or a corporate executive. Be it a spontaneous interview or a pre-arranged one, you should always be prepared. The worst is being caught off-guard at functions when confronted by the press for comments over some issue. Many just go blank before the TV camera in situations like this.

This module will alert you on when to expect the unexpected and guide you in handling the various types of media interview with ease.

We will also discuss the tricky and “fishing” questions and direct you on how to evade difficult and sensitive questions during interviews.
