Day 1

INTRODUCTION
Briefly about the news media industry.

MODULE 1
Gaining An Insight Into The Workings Of The Press

It is essential to know how the press function if you wish to seek media coverage for your press conferences or other corporate events such as product launches and signing ceremonies.

Without a clear knowledge of the workings of the press, you will not be able to communicate effectively with the reporters or editors to achieve  media coverage or the kind of coverage you need for your company.

Find out, among other things, who are the actual decision-makers in a newsroom, how major editorial decisions are made and, most importantly, what attracts media coverage.

MODULE 2
Developing And Maintaining Good Media Relations

There are  several  ways  you  can  go about in cultivating  such a relationship with the media and turn journalists into your friends.

You will be shown how having good media relations can be of tremendous help to you and your company, especially when your company is in a crisis, when you need media coverage for certain corporate events or when you wish to avoid media exposure in a controversy.

MODULE 3
Attracting The Media To Cover Your Press Conferences And Other Corporate Events

The media are invited to numerous press conferences and other corporate events everyday. In order to compete for media attention, your event will have to stand out different from others. Here, we will show you how to skew a press conference or an event to the taste and interest of the media. A highly-successful PR event of a local company that attracted wide coverage with a simple media slant will be discussed.

Among other things, we will point out when you should or should not hold an event, and what you can do if no journalist is available to cover your press conference.

MODULE 4
Maximising Media Coverage For Your Events

You can get lots of publicity mileage if you “stretch” an event to the maximum. An example of how a company gained maximum publicity from such a “stretching exercise” will be highlighted for discussion.

Other ways to maximise media coverage will also be reviewed.

Also in this module: What can you do if you are misquoted by the media or a mistake is made on the news story of your company?

MODULE 5
Exploring For Publicity Or Story  Opportunities

There are countless publicity opportunities available in the media thesedays that you can take advantage of. You will be guided on how to detect or identify these opportunities, especially those relevant to your needs.

You can also capitalise on current events for positive publicity. How?

CONCLUSION
How they work: the electronic media, the local and foreign news agencies, and the features syndicates.
