Malaysians fall in love with Pakistani Mangoes

KUALA LUMPUR (June 26, 2000): Thousands of eager Malaysians thronged towards the capital city’s premier shopping center yesterday, to indulge in the heavenly taste of Pakistani mangoes Chaunsa and Sindhri.

Pakistan mango tasting was arranged in the capital city and the State of Selangor.  Booths were set up at four popular supermarkets and retail outlets.  An estimated 100,000 Malaysians sampled the taste of Chaunsa and Sindhri at these tasting sessions.

Jointly organized by the Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan and the High Commission for Pakistan in Kuala Lumpur, the Pakistan Mangoes Exhibition and Tasting was met with tremendous response.  Mango lovers turned up to “see, smell, feel, touch and taste” the Pakistan mangoes, and to learn about the interesting facts and fun ways to eat them.

“Drinking ‘mango juice’ straight from a mango simply by squeezing a mango is totally out of this world and a new experience for Malaysians,” says shopper Fanny Chu. “A bit messy but it sure makes eating mangoes fun.” She quips, “Good exercise for the fingers too!”

“Never knew Pakistani mangoes tasted so sweet and juicy”, adds shopper Ms Patricia Chan.

There was never a dull moment.  Having tasted Pakistani mangoes first hand, most shoppers commented Pakistani mangoes should be on top of the list of Most Delicious Mangoes Ever.

An ardent Malaysian mango lover volunteered to promote Pakistani mangoes to his favourite fruit wholesaler to ensure he could get a supply of Pakistani mangoes in the future.

A similar Pakistan Mangoes Exhibition and fruit-tasting session will be held in Pulau Pinang on June 27-28 at Berjaya Georgetown Hotel and Tops Supermarket, One Stop Midlands Park Complex. The launch ceremony will be officiated by Penang Deputy Chief Minister YB Dato’ Dr Hilmi Haji Yahaya.
