Pakistan
Mangoes Exhibition to introduce Pakistani Chaunsa and Sindhri a huge success
in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR
(June 25, 2000): Jointly organized by the Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan
and the High Commission for Pakistan in Kuala Lumpur, the launch of Pakistan
Mangoes Exhibition and Tasting was met with tremendous response.
To
reinforce the theme, the Ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental was transformed
into a mango paradise, with the event backdrop, rostrum, stage setup and
food stations decorated tastefully with real Pakistan mangoes. This
provided a wonderful backdrop for press photos and TV coverage.
This
followed the launching of the Pakistan Mangoes Exhibition by the Parliamentary
Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Malaysia, YB Dato Abu Bakar bin
Taib at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur earlier yesterday.
Also present was The High Commissioner for Pakistan, His Excellency Mr
Musa Javed Chohan, the Commercial Counsellor of the Pakistan High Commission
Mr Athar Jamal Abro and other dignitaries.
Instead
of the usual cutting of ribbons to officially open an event, Dato’ Abu
Bakar was invited to cut a mango off a mango tree to mark the launch.
Media
coverage was extensive, with coverage by two of the nation’s major TV stations,
RTM 1 and RTM 2, in their national news conducted in English, Chinese and
Bahasa Malaysia. The press attendance at the launch was impressive,
with reporters and photographers of major vernacular newspaper turned up.
“I
hope Malaysia and Pakistan explores possible areas of cooperation particularly
in the promotion of tropical fruits which benefits both countries,” says
Dato’ Abu Bakar.
The
seven member-strong delegation of major Pakistan mangoes exporters met
with government officials and prominent Malaysian importers and wholesalers
during the launch, which help them forge close business ties.
Each
year, Pakistan produces a total of 1million metric tons of mangoes for
worldwide and local consumption. The exporters were confident to get a
big share of the Malaysian mango market, and have received enquiries on
potential business deals worth up to US$ 0.5 million. They were confident
that orders could be secured from both the food processing and consumer
sectors.
