On behalf of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA), I would like to appeal you to support the conference by donating cash or souvenirs, or by sponsoring the Opening Ceremony or one of the meals for participants. Your support will go a long way in making the conference a success and in promoting the country.
The MELTA Biennial Conference is an important event and occupies a special place among the many English Language Teaching (ELT) conferences organised in the region. It serves as a forum that brings together many scholars, specialists and practitioners both from Malaysia and overseas. A sizeable number of participants are also representatives from the corporate world that includes publishers, text book writers and executives interested in the issues and policies in ELT.
Many ELT conferences have been organised in this region but none has addressed the impact of challenging times on the teaching of this language which is so important for international communications.
The British Council and USIS are supporting our effort. They are bringing experts from Britain and the US to present their latest research findings at the conference.
As you already know, MELTA is a non-profit organisation. Its normal operating expenses are covered by subscriptions from its members, it therefore cannot organise conferences of this nature without the generous support of well-wishers and donors. The conference is estimated to cost RM283.690. Some amount will be brought in through registration of participants, which is kept low to ensure greater participation from members of the academia and teachers. Fees are expected to bring in RM110,000 leaving a deficit of RM173,690.
We look forward to your support, suggestions and encouragement. An early response will be most appreciated as it will facilitate administrative arrangements. Needless to say, your sponsorship will be duly publicised and acknowledged.
We firmly believe "Nothing's Impossible!" and with your kind support, we can surely make it a great and beneficial conference for everyone involved. We've done it for the past four conferences and there's no stopping us from doing it with a bigger and louder bang even in these challenging times. We know with your support we will!
