former journalist of 17 Years, S W Chan,

SW
CHAN, a former senior journalist, is a Media
Relations Consultant & Trainer of Meridian
Communications.
An
expert in media relations and crisis management
in the context of media handling, he has
17 years of experience in news reporting
and news management as a reporter and an
editor in both newspaper and TV journalism.
He
started his journalistic
career with The Star in 1982
and has held various positions
such as Journalist (Grade 1),
Staff Correspondent and Senior Writer. In
1993, he joined Sun Media Group as a Senior
Editor to help set up and manage The
Sun. He resigned in 1996 and joined Vision
Four Media Group as Business Development
Manager. Shortly after, he left Vision
Four to be an independent
Media Relations Consultant & Trainer
to counsel and train corporate executives,
including CEOs and company directors, on
media-handling strategies.
He
subsequently returned to journalism when
he was offered another start-up role, this
time in the medium of television.
He was appointed Managing Editor,
News, of ntv7 late 1997 to help establish
and manage the TV station’s News Department.
He left ntv7 early 2000 and was later appointed
Consultant to a regional public relations
agency.
He
presently runs Meridian Communications in
providing media relations consultancy and
training.
